In their own words

We (my husband and I) moved from Wiltshire to Longton in South Ribble, back to our roots in Lancashire to enjoy our retirement. Less than 3 months later I saw an advertisement in the local paper wanting volunteers for a Luncheon Club forming in Longton. Sylvia not only recruited me for that but also to do Reception at Arkwright House, as during our chat she had wheedled out of me that I had volunteered prior to my relocation I had volunteered on a reception role, as the luncheon club was monthly I was delighted to be asked to consider a regular weekly task too. Five years on I took on a third role (I had enjoyed the others so much) I have joined the Community Links home visiting team which has been thoroughly enjoyable. Meeting new people has been a great pleasure all round, a few hours a week is not much to give but I am sure makes a world of difference to anyone who is alone. Kath Baxter Volunteer |
