We have a brand new allotment site at Charnley Fold!

Funding from the South Ribble micro-commissioning fund has enabled Dementia Services to support the development of a Men’s Group, to set up an allotment and wild flower area at Charnley Fold.

The two areas are in the early development stage as shown in the pictures and are being set up through rotavating of the allocated spaces and the importing of new top soil.

The allotment area has been encassed by a new trellis fence, in line with other fences insitu. A full path is being added to join the existing path with the same gravel added, for safety.

Vegetable and wild flower seeds along with cuttings are being purchased to help establish the new areas.

The group will be supporting individuals from the community, many of whom may have memory concerns/dementia along with carers and volunteers. It is hoped the group will become self-sustaining in the longer term, through volunteer and staff support. The service users accessing the day support at Charnley Fold and Withy Trees will also be able to support and enjoy the areas.

Hopefully in time we will be able to sell vegetables and fruit to the cafe and flowers through a stall within the reception area. This will support the purchase of future materials, hand tools etc.

Watch this space for further development updates!
