The Home Help Service

Julie phoned the Home Help service with concerns over her father Peter. She asked if we could help him with cleaning and shopping as he was awaiting a heart bypass and a hip replacement. Though fiercely independent he has struggled since the death of his wife some months back, and Julie lives too far away to be able to support him on a weekly basis. We referred him to Promoting Independence for support whilst we set up the Home Help service for him but unfortunately he tried to do his shopping himself and ended up in hospital.

He has now realised that he does need the help and is willing to have a Home Help on a weekly basis to assist him with his cleaning and shopping. His daughter is now relieved that he is getting the support he needs.
